The impact of early life infections on non-communicable diseases (ELIaD)

Project summary
Infections during the early stages of life can have long-term effects on organ systems, potentially leading to non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Supported by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) programme, the ELIaD project investigates how early-life infections impact the development of NCDs in children. Specifically, the project will integrate existing data on infections with information on NCDs and their intermediate phenotypes across Europe. Using data from the EU Child Cohort Network, the project will analyse health outcomes and establish standardised variables related to infections. It will identify vulnerable groups and compile a comprehensive open dataset on infections and NCDs in children.
Impact
This dataset is expected to inform the development of public health policies designed to prevent and control NCDs.
