Pilot Line for Photonics-Based Medical Devices (PhotonMed)

Project summary
Photonics technologies generate, control and detect light waves and photons. Medical device industry is a rapidly growing opportunity area for photonics technologies, with applications ranging from diagnostics to surgical tools and therapeutics. The tremendous diversity in both photonics technologies and medical applications combined with the heavy regulation makes prototyping and commercial uptake complex, time-consuming and costly. The EU-funded PhotonMed project aims to create an ecosystem of end-users and manufacturers working to continuously renew the offerings of photonics pilot lines.
Impact
It will help research and technology organisations and industrial suppliers develop their photonics technologies and production methods, while end-users will have mature demonstrators, accelerating the adoption of the latest photonics technologies in medical device applications.
