About us

The Research Development Office (RDO) offers a range of funding application-related services for research, innovation and education to promote (inter)national cooperation and financing. We inform and advise Erasmus MC staff in a pro-active manner on both European and (inter)national funding opportunities for research, innovation and education as well as on the development and writing of a successful funding application. In addition, we offer advice to Erasmus MC staff, management and the Board of Directors on external European and (inter)national funding programmes and relations, and facilitate cooperation between Erasmus MC and other organisations.

Warning regarding working with consultancies for proposal writing

Consultancy agencies that wish to deliver services regarding the preparation of research, innovation and/or education proposals to be submitted from Erasmus MC must contact the Research Development Office prior to contacting and/or contracting employees from Erasmus MC. Any contract regarding such services that is being signed by employees of Erasmus MC, will only enter into force after being approved by RDO and the Erasmus MC Legal Affairs department.

Before Ms. Vink joined Erasmus MC in 2016, she was Business Director of the UNESCO-IHE Water Institute in Delft. Before that, from 2007 onwards, she worked as Special Advisor & Program Manager EU / Government relations at the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). Until then, she was Head of the Technical and Scientific Attaches Network of the Ministry of Economic Affairs in the Netherlands. Prior she worked as senior policy advisor European research and technology policy for the Ministry of Economic Affairs. She also worked as Chief Liaison Office at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and as a research and training advisor for the United Nations (FAO & UNHCR).

Linda Everse studied chemistry at the University of Chicago and medical biology at the Academic Hospital Utrecht, receiving her PhD in 1999. Following Post-doc’s at MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston,TX/USA) and the Veterinary School at Utrecht University (Utrecht/NL), she joined Erasmus MC’s Department of Radiology in 2003 as Research Support Officer. In this position, she was responsible for advice on grant proposals, budgeting, and project management, as well as handling research contracting and industrial grant negotiations. In April 2018, Linda joined RDO, where she will focus on charitable grants, both in the Netherlands and abroad.

In January 2020, Pim Jansen joined the Research Development Office as Advisor Research & Innovation funding NL. Prior to this position, she worked as funding advisor and policy officer prizes & internal grants at the Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR). As funding advisor she offered funding support to applicants for national and European grants from various faculties. In her role as policy officer prizes & internal grants she was responsible for the coordination of internal funding schemes and the coordination of internal and external research prizes.

In January 2021, Peter Arentsen joined the Research Development Office in a position as senior advisor research grants in the Netherlands. Peter studied health sciences. He gained experience with research funds in the Netherlands over the past years in different positions. For many years, he worked as a programme manager at ZonMw. He worked for ZonMw-programmes with topics about quality and safety in health care and fundamental research (TOP-subsidies, ZonMw Open Competition and Rubicon). In the meantime, he was also able to work through secondment as researchmanager at the Dutch Heart Foundation. Recently, he worked as a policy officer at the Royal Dutch Society for Physiotherapy. Besides working at RDO he’s also owner of AudioFysio.

Ismaela Nieuwenhuijs joined the Research Development Office at Erasmus MC in January 2017, as Senior Advisor EU Funding. She gained experience with European research funds over the past years in different positions. From 2013 until 2016 at the Utrecht University, where she was Deputy Head of the Research Support Office of the Law, Economics and Governance Faculty. Apart from advising and assisting scientific staff on their EU grant applications, she was the project manager for the largest FP7 project to date in the faculty (bEUcitizen). Ismaela’s career in research support started at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University where she worked as a Research Associate and Project Manager at the Partnerships Resource Center (funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs) from 2009 until 2013.”

She holds a degree in Biomedical Sciences (MSc at VU University, Amsterdam) with a specific focus on oncology. She received her PhD at the same institute based on her translational work regarding biomarkers in salivary gland cancers.

As a post-doc, she worked on deciphering the molecular mechanisms behind acute myeloid leukemia at the Erasmus MC. In addition, she gained international research experience during her time in the USA (Nashville, TN and Denver, CO).

Prior to joining RDO, Hedy first worked as a Medical Writer at TRM Oncology and then moved on to a role as Medical Advisor at Merck, where she initiated and supervised multiple investigator-initiated clinical trials in the field of oncology.

Jeroen joined the Research Development Office in March 2021 and has around 6 years of work experience in supporting European Research and Innovation proposals. He started his European grants experience at Tilburg University, where he supported many different types of proposals, both national (NWO) and European (H2020). From 2018 on, the prime focus was on the Societal Challenges program under H2020, and strategically preparing for the follow-up European program: Horizon Europe.

Diana joined the Research Development Office in June 2023 and has worked the last six years at the National Agency for European Programme Erasmus+ as Coordinator Cooperation Partnerships in higher education. As coordinator she was responsible for the information of the call of proposals, training of external assessors, the assessment process and project management of funded projects. Earlier in her career she worked at The Hague University for applied sciences as advisor internationalization and at NWO as policy officer for Social Sciences open competition and programme council for educational research.

Joost studied chemistry and obtained his PhD in biochemistry & biophysics at Utrecht University. Afterwards he joined NWO, working as a program officer on a broad range of topics. In this position he was actively involved in organizing scientific conferences for physicists, chemists and life scientists. He worked on grant programmes ranging from the open competition (for fundamental research topics), the talent scheme (Veni, Vidi, Vici) and public private partnership programmes together with the eScience Center and Holland Chemistry with topics in computational sciences, student careers and entrepreneurship in science. In 2020 he joined the Research Development Office as Advisor Personal Grants Funding.

Jennifer de Wolf-Collins joined the RDO as funding advisor personal grants in June 2020. She has a background in molecular life sciences (BSc and MSc) and obtained her PhD on paediatric research and developmental biology from Maastricht University. For her postdoctoral research, she spent nearly 4 years at the Sinclair Institute for Regenerative Medicine at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (Ottawa, Canada), where she successfully applied for and obtained personal research grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Canadian Thoracic Society (CTS). In 2016 she returned to the Netherlands and joined the Department of Pediatric Surgery at Erasmus MC as a junior PI, where her research focussed on the impact of antibiotics and hyperoxia on mesenchymal stromal cells in the preterm lung, supported by personal grants from the Lung Foundation Netherlands and the Sophia Research Foundation. During her career as an academic researcher she has gained extensive experience in writing, defending and obtaining national and international grants from governmental institutions (NWO, ERC, MSC-IF), charities (Lung Foundation Netherlands, Sophia Research Foundation) and academic societies (Canadian Thoracic Society, European Respiratory Society).

Raoul is senior advisor international affairs at Erasmus MC and received his training in biochemistry and genetics in Leiden, London, Oxford and Paris. His PhD research was in DNA damage caused by chemo and radiotherapy at Erasmus MC.
He has also worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Erasmus MC and the Siebold Foundation on research education (2005-2006), and was European Program Manager Science Next Wave at Science Magazines-American Association for the Advancement of Science (2003).
He had been board member of the National PhD student Council (1999-2002) and served as first president of its European Counterpart, Eurodoc (2001) before its official launch. In addition, he had been in the steering committee for career perspectives of biomedical researchers of the National Federation of Medical Scientific Associations (FMWV) and the National Association of Medical Research Scientists (VMWO) as VMWO board member (2000-2003, 2005-2007).
After two years in Asia (South Korea and Indonesia) he returned to Erasmus MC in 2009 as research policy manager and advisor international affairs. He was EU liaison officer for Erasmus MC at the Netherlands Federation of University Medical Centers (NFU) and Association of Universities in the Netherlands (VSNU) until 2015 and ERC grants had his special interest. As senior advisor international he developed the output-based internationalisation strategy & policy for Erasmus MC and changed his research scope from genetics to global research networks.
