BrainWatch: continuous ultrasound monitoring of the brain before, during and after surgical intervention.

Project summary

Removing a brain tumor is difficult and dangerous. It is difficult because the tumor and healthy brain tissue often look very similar, and it is dangerous because the amount of tissue removed has direct consequences for the patient’s subsequent life both in terms of quality and duration. BrainWatch is about developing an ultrasonic technique that can accurately and continuously visualize the brain during surgery. With this, the surgeon can immediately see where the healthy tissue is located and where the tumor needs to be removed.
