(PlaComOv-study) Evaluation of effectiveness of the PlasmaJet Surgical device in the treatment of Advanced Stage Ovarian Cancer: a randomized controlled trial in The Netherlands
Project summary
900 women a year are operated for metastasized ovarian cancer. The removal of all tumors is important for the long-term survival of these women: once a tumor is spread out over the intestines and peritoneum a complete operation (debulking) is difficult. In this study the effectiveness of a new operation tool, the PlasmaJet, is compared with the current way of operating metastasized ovarian cancer. With this tool one can treat very small tumor metastases.
This research is a multicenter collaboration in the regions of Rotterdam, Leiden and Enschede.
Impact
900 women a year are operated for metastasized ovarian cancer. The removal of all tumors is important for the long-term survival of these women. This study not only investigates the effectiveness of a new instrument, but also the consequences of this new treatment by looking for the quality of life, the need to apply a stoma and the cost-effectiveness.
