Kidney-related heart failure

Project summary
Heart failure due to a stiff heart muscle can have many different causes and is often accompanied by chronic kidney disease. The small blood vessels in both the heart and the kidneys appear to play an important role here. An abnormality in the structure of the blood vessels limits the supply of oxygen and nutrients and the removal of waste products.
Impact
Researchers at RECONNEXT want to know what effect aging has on the function of blood vessels and on the disease process of kidney-related heart failure. That is why they are working with AstraZeneca to look for new treatments that, as it were, slow down aging in the blood vessels. They use existing datasets, with RNA and protein data, to look for leads for suitable pharmaceutical molecules.
