Play, Learn, Thrive: Unlocking Brighter Futures for Preterm Children from Disadvantaged Backgrounds

Project summary
Very preterm birth affects ~1% of all births in the Netherlands and can lead to long-term motor, cognitive, and behavioral impairments. These challenges are exacerbated in children from low socioeconomic backgrounds, who face additional risks for educational setbacks. This pilot study will assess the effect of free playschool with parental education, on playschool adherence and developmental outcomes among 30 preterm children from low SES. I expect that education on the importance of playschool attendance and resolving financial barriers will improve adherence. Findings can guide policies on funding playschool for preterm children to improve long-term educational and social outcomes.
