Targeting Prostaglandins in Chronic Kidney Disease

Project summary

High blood pressure and diabetes are reaching epidemic proportions and contribute to the onset of chronic kidney disease, a devastating disease that is a major global health burden. Most people do not show symptoms of chronic kidney disease until major kidney damage has occurred, and current therapies for treatment are not effective. This project will address the potential of a naturally occurring group of lipids, prostaglandins, as a new intervention for chronic kidney disease.

Impact

Successful completion will greatly deepen understanding of the pathogenesis of the disease, leading to clinical application and ultimately preventing chronic kidney disease.
