Uncharted territory: unravelling the effect of feedback on diagnostic performance and confidence-accuracy calibration in physicians

Project summary
Feedback is crucial for learning and improving performance, but physicians rarely receive feedback on their diagnostic performance due to lack of follow-up after consultations. This proposal will unravel how feedback can improve diagnostic accuracy and confidence calibration (assessing one’s own performance). By comparing process-focused and outcome-focused feedback to a control condition, this project will identify the most effective feedback strategy. Combining a real-world clinical practice setting with a vignette study, this project will offer insights into the effect of feedback on diagnostic performance and confidence calibration, advancing (medical) educational science and clinical practice.
